Downtown Art Walk Shuttle "The Hippodrome"

A FREE Art Walk shuttle loops throughout Gallery Row on Art Walk nights from 6-10 pm. A distinctive, historic 1940s renovated bus, the shuttle provides a loop service along Spring and Main Streets from 2nd to 8th Streets as indicated on the Art Walk map. Pickups and stops are available on demand — just wave to the vehicle to stop or alert the driver to exit.

The shuttle is hosted by Kim Cooper and Richard Schave of Esotouric, who present performances and provide historical tidbits and Art Walk information. Full schedule.

Dubbed "The Hippodrome," the shuttle is named in honor of the late, lamented Hippodrome Theater, formerly located at 4th & Main Streets at 320 S. Main St., which was the largest performance space west of the Mississippi when it opened in 1913. On opening night, Toddles the Elephant starred.

This Hippodrome will serve the Downtown Art Walk as a floating salon, featuring live music, art happenings, readings and curated conversations.

Many thanks to the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council for thir generous sponsorship of this shuttle service.

The Hippodrome is provided by American Transportation Service in South Los Angeles, and is referred to by them as "The Party Bus."
